Do I need to be Byzantine Catholic to attend?
Not at all! Visitors are always welcome. Whether you are Catholic, Orthodox, from another Christian tradition, or simply curious about the Byzantine Catholic faith, we would be happy to have you join us.
What should I expect at Divine Liturgy?
Our worship is rooted in the ancient Byzantine Christian tradition and includes sung prayer, incense, icons, Scripture, and the celebration of the Eucharist. Most of the service is sung by the cantor with the full participation of the congregation, and you are welcome simply to observe and participate as you feel comfortable.
Do I need to know the prayers or responses?
No. Please don't worry if everything is unfamiliar at first. You are welcome to follow along, listen, and experience the Liturgy. Members of the mission are also happy to help you find your place in the service.
What should I wear?
There is no special dress requirement. We simply encourage clothing that is respectful for worship.
I'm a Roman or other Eastern Catholic, can I receive communion at Patronage?
Yes, any Catholic who is properly prepared may partake of communion at our church. Attending our church will also count as your Sunday obligation.
We distribute communion in both species (body and blood) on a spoon. Simply come up to the priest, open your mouth, and allow him to place it in your mouth. You do not need to cross yourself or say "Amen."
I am not Catholic, am I able to receive communion?
Catholics believe in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Out of respect for our tradition we humbly ask that those who have not been received into the Catholic faith not take the Eucharist.
Are children welcome?
Absolutely. Children are an important part of our mission community, and families should feel comfortable bringing children to Divine Liturgy. We also offer Eastern Catholic Formation for our children with interactive lessons and activities throughout the year.
Why do people make the Sign of the Cross differently?
In the Byzantine tradition, we usually make the Sign of the Cross from right to left. Don't worry about doing everything exactly as everyone else does, left to right also works fine!
Is parking available?
Yes there is ample parking in the back of the church which can be accessed via the small driveway located between the Sheetz gas station on the left and the church on your right.
